Case Study #2 Creto DPS (Deep Penetrating Sealer)- Steps in Forbidden City, China

The Chinese Government needed a solution to solve a deterioration of the steps in Forbidden City without adversely affecting the visual appearance. Years of foot traffic and environmental attack weaken concrete and Creto had a solution to the problem. Application of our product reduced dusting and spalling of the concrete and improved the surface compression. It was virtually invisible after applying as it penetrates the surface and does not leave a sheen nor does it affect surface friction. Creto DPS (Deep Penetrating Sealer) reacts with the alkali present in Portland cement to strengthen the concrete and extend its’ useful life.

The product was sprayed on the steps and a small amount of phenolphthalein was added to show were it was sprayed. Phenolphthalein is a chemical indicator that reacts to give a reddishe color when it comes into contact with a basic solution. The color disappeared after application.
